Condition Assessments Short Course 2026

  • Northern States Conservation Center (map)

Description: Whenever an object leaves or enters your museum, transitions from storage to exhibition, or experiences meaningful changes in condition, it should have a dated condition report completed. A condition report is so much more than "good" or "poor." Learn about different types of condition reports, what is essential and what is optional information in each, the function of a condition report, and how to use online condition assessment tools. In this two-week course, NSCC instructor Elizabeth Burton also shares her own condition assessment templates while walking students through other versions, like those from the National Park Service and small historic house museums.
